James David "Jim" Kline

James David "Jim" Kline died July 14, 2004, at his home in Albany, Ore.

He was born June 4, 1931, in Denver, Colo. At a very young age, Jim's family moved to Steamboat Springs, Colo., where he graduated from high school in 1949. He was a ski patrolman in Steamboat Springs, a seasonal employee for the U.S. Forest Service and an original land surveyor in Alaska, before serving in the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean Conflict and earned a Bronze Star commendation.

He married Myrna Harvey, Aug. 5, 1955, in Brighton, Colo.

After his military service, Jim went to college and graduated from Colorado State University in 1958 with a B.S. degree in Forest Management. He then worked for the U.S. Forest Service, until retiring in 1988 as District Ranger of the Tally Lake District in Whitefish.

Jim and his wife spent three months as missionaries in India. They had lived in Albany for the last 10 years. Jim was an avid bike rider, logging up to 5,000 miles a year for over eight years running.

He will be remembered as an active outdoorsman, biker and skier, in his work, his social life and by his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Gary Kline.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna; son and daughter-in-law, David and Amy Kline of Corvallis; daughter Kim Kline of Albany; sister Raynette Morelock of Watkins, Colo; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 23 at United Presbyterian Church in Albany with the Rev. Sharon Edwards presiding. A reception will follow at the church.
