Genevieve Frances Kruzic Thompson

Genevieve Frances Kruzic Thompson returned to heaven on August 18, 2004 at the age of 88, at SunBridge Care and Rehab Center in Moses Lake, Wash.

She was the youngest child of John and Marie (Kucan) Kruzic, born in Cicero, Ill. on October 23, 1915. She was raised in Gary, Ind. and graduated from Emerson High School in 1933. She completed nursing training at St. Mary Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1937.

Genevieve enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was a front line surgical nurse with the 48th Mobile Surgical/128th Evacuation Hospitals. She received the Bronze Star for work after D-Day. She was discharged in 1945 with the rank of captain.

Gen married Murray Thompson and followed him to various military posts around the world She worked as a nurse in various places while raising her family. In Moses Lake, she worked for Drs. Larson, Roth and Wright in their offices and assisted with surgeries.

Gen volunteered for many organizations and often served as president or held other offices. She was active in the GFWC (Women's Club), American Legion Auxiliary, AARP, Friends of the Library, Literacy Council and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was honored with the "Women of the Basin" award in 1989.

Gen is survived by: her children, Barbara Gail Ruff of Moses Lake, Jay and Linda Thompson of Las Vegas, Nev., Dan and Marilyn Thompson of Sun City West, Ariz., and Gary and Kay Thompson of Appleton, Wisc.; grandchildren, Lori and Lisa Ruff, Courtney Clabeaux, Tami Beruninger, Tim, Scott, Terry, Rick, Ross and Dan Thompson; numerous great-grandchildren; niece, Judy Kafantaris; nephew, Vic Kruzic; and sister-in-law, Sophia Kruzic.

Gen was loved by all and will be missed.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 28, 2004 at 11 a.m. at the Moses Lake United Methodist Church.
