Up, up and away!

Heart-racing machines at Altitude Adjustments give thrills galore to kids of all ages

With the large crowds stomping the fairgrounds' pavement every day, one of the most popular attractions at the Grant County Fair is the one that sends people dozens of feet into the night sky.

Altitude Adjustment is an Idaho company that advertises adrenaline-pumping toys such as a skyjumping machine and a climbing wall. Every day, no matter what the hour, their booth at the Grant County Fair is surrounded by kids of all ages in search of a good thrill.

"Kids like it, although some get scared," said Chris Colland, one of the booth's employees.

As far as county fair thrills go, this is not a cheap one, as the skyjumping machine, which ties kids to two large elastic bands secured around their waist and makes them jump off an inflated trampoline, costs $5, and the the climbing wall costs $3 per climb and $5 for three climbs.

Still, that is no excuse for kids hoping to go beyond the typical Ferris wheel entertainment of a fair, and wanting to go from "wheee!" to "whoa!!."

"It was awesome!" 11-year-old Tevyn Ailor said, getting down from the skyjumping machine. "It wasn't dangerous at all."

As far as the reasons for his daredevil pastime, Ailor said he had succumbed to his own peer pressure.

"I saw someone else do it and it looked like fun."

Was he willing to try it again? Maybe, except for one little detail.

"I wanted to go on the climbing wall, too, but I don't have any more money."
