Cowboy Breakfast gathers residents around the good stuff

Pancakes and juice and sausage, oh my! Singers and poets and neighbors, oh my!

The annual Cowboy Breakfast organized by the Moses Lake Kiwanis Club had its usual assortment of food, sunshine and entertainment for people of all ages today at Sinkiuse Square.

With crowds lining up since 6:30 a.m., the breakfast, whose proceeds will go to sponsorships and scholarships offered by Kiwanis, was deemed a total success by the small group of people in charge of putting it together, and the larger group in charge of eating the food and socializing.

"We have lived here for 25 years and this is the first year we came," Moses Lake resident Ann Drader said. "We enjoyed it."

Those who have been here much less than a quarter century enjoyed it, too.

Yoon-Jin-Lee, a 16-year-old girl who is part of the delegation of Korean students visiting Grant County, which arrived yesterday, said the event and the city were "beautiful." Gamely donning a cowboy hat and speaking through a translator, she extended the laurels to the food by local restaurant Michael's On The Lake.

"It tastes great," she said. "Everything looks pretty cool."

Jessica Hudson, from Moses Lake and running for the crown of Miss Othello Rodeo said the breakfast was a wonderful event that gathered many people from different areas. The steady flow of public continued throughout the morning, with business people and office employees coming early, and senior citizens and retirees enjoying the fun as the clock ticked and the temperatures rose.

Halfway through the event, Kiwanis president Beth Laszlo declared he satisfaction with the way the breakfast and the crowds had turned out.

"It's early still, but it's going pretty good," she said.

The Cowboy Breakfast is known as the kickoff to the Grant County Fair, which opens Tuesday.
