Leah Hill Rowbury

Leah Hill Rowbury, 88, of Moses Lake, Wash., passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2004 in Provo, Utah at the home of Roger and Rose Rowbury. Leah suffered for many years with diabetes-related illnesses.

Leah was born on December 17, 1915 in Mapleton, Utah to Emil Doyle Hill and Blanche Whiting Hill. Leah lived in Leslie, Idaho and Mapleton, Utah in her early years and she lived in Goshen, Idaho when she met her husband-to-be, Virgil Rowbury. They were married on June 23, 1933 in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

They farmed in Shelley, Osgood, Lost River and Sterling, Idaho and moved to the Columbia Basin in 1953. They farmed and lived in Moses Lake and Warden.

Later, Leah drove a school bus in Warden, and they were custodians at the Warden LDS chapel. After the death of Virgil in 1998 she moved to Moses Lake.

Leah served faithfully in her church in Relief Society, Primary and Young Women's. Leah and Virgil served a full-time mission in Askov, Minn. and worked for many years in the Seattle, Wash. LDS temple. She was always willing to help anyone who would happen to need her. She loved to make quilts and made many pretty quilts and afghans for family and friends.

She was the loving mother of 10 children: Blanche Stauffer of Ogden Utah, Lynn (Dora) Rowbury of Aberdeen Idaho, GaNene (Alvin "Guy") Nelson of Moses Lake, Lyle (Naomi) Rowbury of Katy, Texas, Marie (Theron) Sainsbury of Moses Lake, Roger (Rose) Rowbury of Provo, Utah, Yvonne (Gary) Lawson of Moses Lake, Darrell (Judy) Rowbury of Hermiston, Ore., Marlene (Dennis) Klemmer of Moses Lake and LaRon (Elizabeth) Rowbury of Citrus Heights, Calif.

Leah is survived by: all 10 of her children; 61 grandchildren; 162 great-grandchildren; 17 great great-grandchildren; three sisters. Maxine Jensen, Rowene Elder and Grace Killpack; and four brothers, Newell Hill, Keith Hill, Marion Hill and Reed Hill.

Leah was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, one sister, three brothers, her parents, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two sons-in-law and one grandson-in-law.

The funeral will be held on Friday August 13, 2004 at the Grape Drive Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family will visit with friends at Kayser's Chapel of Memories on Thursday evening, August 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday morning, August 13 from 9-9:45a.m. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Warden.

Leah will be missed by all who knew her. She will have peace now and we will always remember her and love her.
