Hilda was born May 20, 1918 to Gottlieb and Lydia Sackmann in Lind, Wash. She was number 14 of 18 children, and was extremely proud of her family and German heritage.

She married Raymond Ruff on August 31, 1941 and they made their home in Moses Lake in a dryland farming operation. They were married 60 years before his passing.

Hilda was a great cook and loved entertaining, whether it was for wheat harvest crews, family dinners or friends for Sunday dinners. People were always welcome in their home and serving something she had prepared gave her delight.

The business, "Hilda's Hobbies," was a great love. She had a God-given talent for making floral arrangements and crafts, whether it was for weddings, church or just for a special friend. She loved gardening and took great pride in her yard, especially her rose and iris garden.

Hilda was a long-standing member of the First Presbyterian Church in Moses Lake and was a choir member for years. Music was a big part of her life and she had a beautiful voice that she shared. She was also a volunteer for the Samaritan Healthcare gift shop for many years.

She is survived by: her children, Harvey and Sue Ruff, Gene and Bonnie Polhamus; grandchildren, Lori and Lisa Ruff; sisters, Ella (Neil) Miller and Margaret (Edwin) Jeske; and brothers, Albert (Elsie) Sackmann and Emil (Janet) Sackmann.
