Moses Lake finishes behind Ike, Southridge

Brandan Anderson feels he is the fastest off the blocks for the Moses Lake track team.

His speed coach Jeremy Pitts agrees.

"He is quick out of the blocks, stays low and is good," Pitts said about his freshman runner. "He makes up at least a stagger, or a stagger and a half on the relays and for himself."

Once out of the blocks, his focus shifts to the person on his left side. As long as he stays ahead of him, he will be fine in the straight away.

"Around the first corner I try to give it all I got and the second 200, I try to stretch it out," Anderson said.

In Thursday's track meet with Eisenhower and Southridge, Anderson started off the 4X100 relay and the other freshman on the relay team, Aaron Wafer, finished it with a team personal record 44.21. Anderson also finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.12), fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.92) and led Moses Lake to a third place finish in the 4X400 relay team (3:51.509.

Anderson said it has been a pleasant ride as a freshman on the track team and with Wafer's help, he has great expectations. Pitts said, with the two freshman on the team, the relays should make it out of districts and into the regional tournament.

"Aaron is fast and having two fast kids helps a lot," Pitts said.

Moses Lake's Kevin Jackson finished first in the 400-meter dash (52.993, Wafer finished first in the 100-meter dash (11.231) and Chris Andrews finished first in the high jump (5-8). John Edwards finished second in the 300-hurdles (42.952), Kraig Grant finished third in the 200-meter dash (23.763) and second in the pole vault (12-00) and David Moore finished second in the javelin (161-1).

On the girls side, Kelly Jackson led the way for the girls with the only first place finish, with a throw of 119-00 in the javelin. Meredith Boyce finished second in the discuss (111-11) and fourth in the shot put (31-3.25), four Chiefs finished fifth and three finished sixth.

As a team, Moses Lake girls team finished with 32.5 combined team points, trailing Eisenhower with 242 and Southridge's 153.5 combined team points. The Moses Lake boys team finished with 143 combined team points, trailing Eisenhower's 180 points and Southridge's 173 points.
