120-day ESI project will lead to October opening

Home Depot began making a new home for itself this week.

Crews began preparing ground Tuesday for the arrival of the national super store at the corner of Grape Drive and Highway 17.

"We're right on schedule," said Kathryn Gallagher, spokesperson for Home Depot. "We have an end of October opening date."

Tim Freer, superintendent for Engineering Structures, Inc., which is doing the project for Home Depot, said that things have been going well since beginning.

He estimated that the land area of the project is about 11 acres.

"We just have to cut it from the top, and move it down here and flatten it out; that's about it," Freer said, indicating the property from a trailer near the sidewalk of Grape Drive. "It's good ground, good soil."

Freer said that ESI's part of the project will last 120 days.

"Then Home Depot takes it over and they're here for a couple months," he said.

Freer said that at that point, Home Depot will be stocking a store.

"It will be pretty much functional in 120 days," he said.

"We're looking forward to opening a store and serving the community of Moses Lake," Gallagher said.

Home Depot's arrival in Moses Lake was first announced in November 2003.
