Carol McVay, age 69, died April 12, 2004 in the presence of her daughter, Susan Carter with husband, Dennis Carter, her son Michael McVay, cousin, Nikki Hacker and her good friend, Blanca Gonzalez.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Garland McVay.

Carol was born in Yakima, Wash. on October 30, 1934 to Allen and Georgia Sapp. On September 4, 1955, Carol married James McVay in Yakima.

In 1965, they moved to Moses Lake, then to Othello in 1984. Carol remained in Othello until moving to Denver to live close to her family in August of 2003.

Carol retired as an accounting manager at American Potato. As an outpouring of her strong Christian faith, she cared deeply for the people of this local community and thus actively contributed, both formally and informally, within the community.

She was a longtime member of the Moses Lake First Baptist Church, and the Othello Nazarene Church. Within the Nazarene Church, she was a member of "RETREADS" (RETired and READy to Serve). She served as treasurer for many community organizations, including Moses Lake First Southern Baptist Church, Othello Nazarene Church, Othello Friends of the Library, Old Hotel Othello Museum and Habitat for Humanity.

Carol also volunteered in other capacities, such as personal mentoring for the Othello Adult Literacy Council and providing free tax preparation advice for seniors. She particularly enjoyed the Othello Quilting Club.

Carol and her dog, Bandit, were inseparable and thus frequently sighted together throughout town.

Those of us who knew Carol were blessed.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 2004 a the Othello Nazarene Church.
