Grant County Fire District 5 responded to a residential fire on Airway Drive at 1:20 p.m. Thursday. Assistant Chief Dale Bjork stated that the fire was put out in 15 minutes and mop up of the scene continued for another hour. An older man and young boy, home at the time of the fire, escaped without injury, but the mobile home was completely destroyed. Bjork stated that the cause of the fire was related to the boy and gave no further details. Red Cross was contacted for assistance due to lack of insurance on the home.

Gertrude Samantha Hinen, 91, of Soap Lake, went home to be with the Lord on March 19 at Columbia Basin Hospital. She was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on April 29, 1914 to William and Laura Reiff. She grew up in Cornell and Lady Smith, Wis. before moving to Whitley County, Ind. when she was 19 years old. At that time, she met Andrew Hinen and they were married on November 27, 1934 at Nix Settlement, Ind.

Zita Doebler passed away on March 20 after living a full 101 years. She was born on February 27, 1905 in Chisago, Minnesota to Bridget Dawson Rochel and Frank Rochel. The family moved when Zita was a young girl to Yakima, Washington where she was educated and spent her childhood. She later moved to Naches where she met and married Carl Doebler, and raised their son, John. Zita was widowed in 1955 but continued living in the Nile Valley with her brother, Vince Rochel. In the mid-seventies she moved to Mattawa to be nearer son John and family.

Arleen was a 51-year resident of Moses Lake, WA and beloved wife, of 59 years, to Percy Schiller, currently in NJ. She was a devoted mother to son & daughter-in-law, Neil & Susan Schiller of Point Pleasant, NJ and daughter, Anita Nelson, of Belfair, WA. She was the adored grandmother of Wayne, Eric, & Larry Schiller, and Amy Edwards, and great-grandmother of Drew Schiller & Jake Edwards, all of NJ. She was also a loving aunt to Joellen Wolfe of Belfair, WA; Bob Bluhm, of AZ; Marilyn Harris, and Bill & John Kaye all of the Seattle area.
