Genevieve Gerlinden Ries was born on February 19, 1915 and went to be with our Lord on February 19, 2006. She was 91 years old. Gen had 10 siblings of whom three are still living. She has two brothers, Chuck and Paul in Michigan where she was born, and one sister, Clara, who lives in New Mexico.

Terry Wayne Ziegelman passed away Feb. 20. He was 70 years old. Born April 4, 1935 to Kingsley and Jenaveve Ziegelman. Betty M. Nolan passed away Feb. 17, surrounded by family at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata. Betty was born Dec. 23, 1924 at Lynn, Ind. to William and Estelle Dale. She was an Army veteran of World War II. After moving to Washington she married Kermith "Rusty" Nolan in 1947. In 1954 Betty earned her nursing degree, graduating with the first Licensed Practical Nurse class in Washington State.

MOSES LAKE — A criminal citation issued late last year has temporarily halted sediment removal operations from Moses Lake, but the agency removing that debris maintains operations were being done within the statutory authority provided to it.

SOAP LAKE — Last week law enforcement officials concluded a two-month investigation into a major source of methamphetamine in the Ephrata and Soap Lake area with the arrest of a 49-year-old Soap Lake woman who was allegedly running a drug house.

John Edward Brown Jr., 58, of Moses Lake passed away on Feb. 7 in the Critical Care Unit of Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee after a brief illness. He was born on Nov. 14, 1947. John knew that Jesus was his Lord and Savior, and reached out to him in the hospital saying, "I'm right here. Here I am." John was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Moses Lake, where he was recently elected to the Church Council. He was involved in every Bible study he could be in and participated in many fellowship events.

He always told everyone that he was going to be a singer when he grew up, and we all waited patiently for that day to come.

Charles "Butch" Kelly, 1949-2006, passed away Feb. 1, 2006 at his residence of heart problems, leaving behind son Charles II, son Bradley Allen, daughter Sandy Mae and daughter Mandy Lee, niece Cindy "Boo", grandson Nicholas Scott, grandson Andrew Jordan, longtime friend Linda Kelly and girlfriend Shirley Lerma.

Luana Johnson, formerly of Moses Lake and Spokane, passed away in Ogden, Utah on Jan. 18. Born to Spencer and Anna May Collins on Nov. 4, 1925, she was just nine months old when her father was killed in an auto/train accident. Later her mother married John L. Chadwick who raised her as one of his own.

Kris Nicholes, 31, died on Jan. 29 in Moses Lake. He was born on Oct. 31, 1974. Kris is survived by his mother Ruby; two sisters, Amanda and Sara; his daughter Mia; two nephews; one niece; and a brother-in-law. His passions were music, tattoos and being with friends and family. The family will greet friends at the Eagles Lodge Sat. Feb. 7 at 2:30 p.m.

Steven Charles Merchant died last Thursday, Jan. 19, 2006 on Mt. Spokane while snowmobiling with close friends. He died of an apparent heart attack. He was 41, husband of Lanith Perrins Merchant for more than 20 years and the father of six children and one granddaughter.
