Soy, wheat markets surged Tuesday

Soy, wheat markets surged Tuesday

Spillover strength supported corn futures Tuesday. The latest forecasts point to cool mid-April temperatures, but they also imply a stretch of dryness. That may allow farmers to take advantage of the dry spell and get lots of corn planted, which weighed upon prices late this morning. However, strength spilling over from the wheat and soy markets apparently pulled prices upward. May corn settled up 0.75 cent to $5.0375/bushel Tuesday afternoon, while December skidded 0.25 to $5.0325.

Authentic Mexican food. Good and quick service. A must try for everyone. I rarely give 5 stars, but this place is a must try for people in the area. The price is decent with good service. The meat is cooked well for the burrito carne asada that I ordered. I also ordered the horchata, which is like a sweetened milk with cinnamon

You can't go wrong here. Delicious authentic tacos with a tiny price tag. We ordered an assortment of meats and they were all excellently flavored. Everyone was very satisfied. Service was good as well and super fast.

It can be mighty hard to settle on a Mexican restaurant in a town like Moses Lake so after several hesitant loops though town I stooped in here.... and was glad that I did. All the usual menu choices were present and based on what I saw they were cooking it all from scratch. The seafood meal I had was delicious and I devoured it. The tortas here are only 3 bucks, so my friend ordered two... whoops! they were so big that he had trouble finishing the first one before we left.

April 15, 2014 7:48 a.m.

Mike P.

We loved this place, the carnitas was delicious we had it in a burrito and on tacos. The food was fresh, perfectly spicy and loaded with all the great things we love in Mexican food. The service was great, we were seated immediately and helped immediately. Not a fancy, shmancy Mexican place just good old fashion home cooked deliciousness. We are going back every time we are in Moses Lake.

Reader concerned about the country's future

Election time will soon be upon us. With the coming retirement of Congressman Doc Hastings, many candidates have already announced their plans to run for public office. The majority of us in Grant County are conservative. We believe in the Constitution and that those who founded this country knew what they were doing. We become very frustrated that Seattle seems to dominate the outcome of our elections. There are still some things that we can do about it. In 2012 there were over 60,000 people in Grant County over the age of 18, but there were only 36,499 registered voters in the county. In the 2012 election only 76.98 percent of the register voters in Grant County voted. We have had a number of close elections in the last few years, and the people of Grant County and eastern Washington could have changed the outcome of many of those races.

Ag markets seemingly weakened as Monday morning passed

Corn futures started the week on a soft note. Ongoing rains over parts of the Corn Belt and improved weather forecasts for the central U.S. seemed to weigh upon corn future Sunday night. Traders reportedly expect late-week dryness to allow a big surge in plantings. Early losses were likely limited by soy and wheat firmness, as well as a favorable result on the weekly Export Inspections report. May corn slumped 3.5 cents to $4.9825/bushel Monday morning, while December lost 3.5 to $5.0325.

Rail improvements vital to Washington economy

GUEST EDITORIAL

On March 13, the Legislature concluded the 60-day, short session in the 2013 legislative biennium. As usual, some things never change; there are more requests for funding than there are funds, and important projects are left out in the competition for finite resources. As legislators we try to prioritize the most vital statewide needs. However, the amount of time we meet is short, and it is common significant infrastructure - even if it concerns a cornerstone of our economy - goes unfunded.
