An artists reception and exhibit tour started at the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center Saturday evening, with some artists on hand to discuss their work. Exhibit visitors must make their selection and fill out a People's Choice Award Ballot for the 2006 year by May 28, 2007. The winning sculpture will be purchased at the end of the exhibit year by the City of Moses Lake for their permanent collection. All of the sculptures are available to the public. Maps of the exhibit are available. Ballots should be returned to the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center, City Hall or Moses Lake Parks and Recreation Department.

Robert Lee Nichols
Robert Lee Nichols was born Jan. 28, 1943 to Alvie and Doris (Crawford) Nichols in Vernon, Ala., joining a sister, Amogene. Bob went to be with our lord on June 9. Bob's family moved to Moses Lake from Alabama in the mid-1950's. Bob attended Moses Lake schools and served a short time in the Air Force. Bob worked until retirement as a mechanic in a shop that he owned with his father, known as Nick's Valley Automotive. Bob is also a retired musician and loved music. He had his own bands as well as playing music with Ron Hampton, his sidekick from the Sundowners. In the last five years, he worked at the Moses Lake Postal Service helping his wife, B. J., being her right hand man on her mail route. Bob loved fishing, golfing, camping and especially hanging out with so many of his friends. Bob was a wonderful man and not likely forgotten. He was know, to most as Robert, Bob, Bobby, Dad, PaPa and Uncle Bobby. Bob was a member of the Eagles and a forrner member of the VFW, Moose and Elks. Bob was preceded in death by his father, Alvie Lee Nichols, mother Doris Nichols and sister Amogene. Bob leaves behind his wife, lover, friend and soul-mate, B.J. Nichols; a cousin he called his brother, Dan (and Linda) Pennington of Nashville, Tenn.; aunts Annie, Dollie and Anna Banks and numerous cousins from his hometown, Vernon, Ala.; his sons, Scott Nichols (and Donna), and Joshua Nichols; daughter Lisa Nichols; granddaughters Brittney, Heather and Jillian Nichols; great grandson Blake W.S. Nichols; stepsons Ted (and Kris) Piccolo, Joey (and Angie) Piccolo, Jeff (and Toni) Piccolo and their 13 children; nieces Linda Cunnington (and Ray Minitani) and her children, Wish (and Tom Supan) and their children, Missy (and Duey) Dixon and their children, Joyce Watts and her son. Bob had many good friends including, Elmo, Mark, Mo, Eric, Carl, Ron Nuneley and the list goes on, including musician friends Arkie Gartett, Bob Lightel, Chuck Hansen, Chuck Warner, Ray Minitani, Ron Hampton, George Panger, Frank Pederson, Chuck Hart and more… Bob wanted to be remembered as having happy times, helping anyone he could and no tears. He loved you all. His wishes were to have a happy celebration of his life, which will be held at Moses Lake Eagles at 6 p.m. Friday, June 16 with music to follow. Born 1929 in Fort Scott, Kan., to Earl and Alice Jones, passed away June 5, 2006 in Spokane Valley. Earl is survived by his wife Rebecca of Spokane Valley, daughters Judy Hudson of Castle Rock, Audrey Jensen of Portland, Ore., Cheryl O'Niel of Tacoma and seven stepchildren - ED Engel of Knoxville, Tenn.; Patty Beseler of Spokane, Dorothy Payne of Spokane, Jacqueline Pope, Marti Hughes, Becky Brown and Terry Anderson of Moses Lake. He had numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Earl lived in Moses Lake for 27 years before retiring in Spokane in 1999. He worked at U&I Sugar for 21 years followed by Columbia Bean and Produce for 10 years. He served with the U.S. Army in the Panama Canal Zone. While in the Army he played guitar and continued to play until his death. The family requests donations be made to an Alzheimers Association or Hospice.

Allie Mae (Emerson) Fisher, age 74, was born in Weathers, Okla. on Dec. 22, 1931, a daughter of Clarence L. Emerson and Ola (Burge) Emerson. Allie completed her elementary schooling in Longview, spent her ninth grade in Wapato and completed her high school education in Yakima. She graduated from Yakima Senior High School June 9, 1950 with a straight A math score.
Graduation brings reflection on the good ol' days
It's been 12 years since I entered the public school system here in Moses Lake and now I'm finally being set free. Graduation is on Thursday and I'm more excited now than I've ever been. It's starting to feel real for the first time all year. As the date gets closer and closer, I start to reflect on all the good times that school has brought me, as well as the not so good times. But all in all it's been a pretty good ride and I'll be ready to let it go when Mr. Balcom hands me my diploma on Thursday evening.

Grace Irene Warneke, 81, died on May 20, 2006. She was born on March 9, 1925, in Kansas and was raised in the Midwest. Grace and David Duane Warneke were married in 1942 and they raised two children, Sharon Kay and Larry Duane. The Warnekes made their home in many places throughout their lives, finally coming to re-settle in Moses Lake in 1979. Grace had a great love for family and friends, very much enjoyed the outdoors and her favorite sport was fishing.
