Arthur John Schneider
Post Falls
December 9, 1939 - November 8, 2019
Arthur John Schneider, 79, of Post Falls, passed away Nov. 8, 2019, at home, while surrounded by family and friends. Art was born in Chicago on Dec. 9, 1939. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Dorothea (Burgwald) and his sisters, Geraldine and Susan.
Art grew up in Tinley Park, Ill., where he loved to hunt rabbits and pheasants.
After serving in the Army, Art moved to Worley, Idaho, with his dad, in 1966. He became a captain in the newly formed Worley Volunteer Fire Department. In 1972, they moved to the HooDoo Valley. Art joined Laborers Local 328, and at some point, worked on or built almost every bridge in the area.
In 1982, Art gained an instant family when he married Cynthia Fortune, along with her two children, Jane and Harry. The family later moved to Hayden, Idaho. Art relished his role as husband, dad and papa. He loved to travel to the kids’ Scout activities and sporting events. He made sure his kids saw most of this beautiful state of Idaho. He and Cynthia loved to visit National Parks, especially Yellowstone. Art eventually would go to work at Spalding Auto Parts until he retired in 2003, or at least he thought …
In 2004, Art followed Cynthia to her job at Hospice of North Idaho, where he became known as ‘Art 911.’ He loved being the “honey-do” for all of his “girlfriends.” The man could fix anything! He finally retired in 2017, at the age of 77.
Art’s proudest moments were when Jane won the Idaho State Bowling Championship in 1994 and Harry achieved his Boy Scout Eagle Rank in 1995. He was a proud daddy.
Art is survived by his wife, Cynthia, of Post Falls; daughter, Jane of Manteca, Calif., and son, Harry and girlfriend, Lindsey of Hayden Lake. Art had numerous nieces and nephews and adopted a few more along the way.
Art was loved by so many people; too many to mention names. He had some very special people in his life, and you know who you are.
His greatest title was Papa.
Jane’s children, Taylor and Hailey, and Harry’s children, Lily and Evan, loved their Papa greatly.
Others who had the joy of calling him Papa were Hunter, Isaac, Madison and Drew.
The family would like to thank the angels at Hospice of North Idaho. Dr. Ancker, Lori, Jake and Kate will always have a special place in our hearts, but they couldn’t have done it without the rest of our HONI peeps. Thank you all. Art was able to finish his journey at home, like he wanted, because of you.
Art’s celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Hospice of North Idaho Community Building. The address is 2290 W. Prairie Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83815.
Please consider making a donation to Hospice of North Idaho in Art’s honor.
