OTHELLO — The Red Raiders took a big lead early and never let up as Othello defeated West Valley 7-3 after being swept in the double header Monday in Yakima.
Othello scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take an early lead against West Valley. The visitors responded with a run in the second, before the Red Raiders stretched the lead back to three in the bottom of the inning. A run in the fourth and a pair in the sixth put the home team up six headed into the seventh.
West Valley cut it to four in the seventh, but couldn’t claw their way back as Othello picked up the win, moving to 14-11 on the season.
Sebastian Muñoz pitched the entire game for Red Raiders, surrendering eight hits with four strikeouts. Muñoz finished 3-3 from the plate for Othello, scoring a run and adding an RBI. Jonathan Gomez finished 3-4, with a pair of RBIs.
The Red Raiders finished with 11 hits as a team, with just two errors. West Valley had eight hits and a pair of errors as well. The second game of the double header was called due to lightning and will be played tomorrow at 11 a.m.
The Othello Barracudas swim team’s meet against Sunnyside was postponed until next Tuesday due to lightning as well.
For the Central Washington Spuds, last week’s matchup against Wenatchee that was called due to lightning will be played on July 22 at 5:30 p.m. Monday’s game against Northwest Premier was postponed due to scheduling conflicts and will be played on July 15.
