FEDERAL WAY — Moses Lake swimmer Zach Washburn won one event, placed second in another and qualified for state in both at the Kentridge Invitational.
At the Kentridge Invitational — one of the largest regular-season meets — Moses Lake was 11th overall with 158 points and Mercer Island placed first.
Washburn, who completed the “Iron Man” challenge of qualifying for every event at the state meet his first two high school seasons, clocked state qualifying times in the 200 and 100 freestyle. Washburn’s time of 1 minute, 42.50 seconds in the 200 freestyle was good enough for first. Washburn was second in the 100 freestyle in 46.08 seconds.
Dylan Bond took 12th and 13th in the 100 and 200 freestyle, respectively. Chandler Boston was 15th in diving and Jace Truman placed 22nd.
Moses Lake’s 200 medley relay of Bond, Washburn, Cole Lindberg and Ryan Jorgensen finished 10th in 1:41.53. Bond, Isaac Patton, Jorgensen and Washburn finished 11th in the 200 freestyle relay in 1 minute, 42.87 seconds.
Moses Lake returns to the pool Thursday for a double dual in Yakima against Davis and Eisenhower.
Big Bend 33, Washington State 19
MOSES LAKE — Big Bend won six matches, accepted one forfeit and beat Washington State 33-19.
Jovan Garcia and Jonathan Andrewjeski recorded pins for the Vikings. In closer matches, Eduardo Rodriguez edged WSU’s Demetri Koures 6-4 and Jon Chamberlain outlasted Ryan Prescott 6-5.
