Ephrata girls soccer loses State opener at Liberty

ISSAQUAH — Liberty scored four goals within a 10-minute stretch in the second half to beat Ephrata in the first round of the Class 2A State Tournament 5-0.

“I think they increased their intensity in the second half,” head coach Gary Klepec said.

Behind the play of goalkeeper Alvia Helaas, the Tigers kept the game close in the first half and only surrendered their first goal right before intermission when Reese Tappan put Liberty ahead.

However, the close margin became wide in a hurry as Liberty scored four times within the first 10 minutes of the second half.

“They are good,” Klepec said. “They moved the ball well.”

Liberty took advantage of playing the game on its thin turf, controlling the ball with more ease than Ephrata.

Myka Carr and Nikayla Copenhaver scored two goals each in the second half for Liberty.
