PASCO — Big Bend’s playoff hopes took a blow Wednesday night after a five-set loss to Columbia Basin 25-16, 15-25, 25-15, 19-25, 12-15.
The loss doesn’t eliminate Big Bend (7-8, 17-13) from playoff contention, however, it does make Friday’s match with Walla Walla a must-win.
The Vikings started the match strong with a 25-16 win in the first set. But the scores see-sawed throughout, with teams trading sets through four.
Big Bend took a 3-point lead in the fifth set, 9-6, before Columbia Basin put together a 6-0 run.
The Vikings responded with kills by Elli Rodgers and Brynn McKnight to cut the deficit to one point. The Hawks ended the match with a McKenna Carlson kill and an error by McKnight.
Sadie Nielsen finished with a team-high 14 kills; Rodgers and McKnight added 13 and 11, respectively.
