Vikings finish Hawks on walk-off homer

MOSES LAKE — Big Bend softball completed the home sweep of Columbia Basin College on Friday, May 3, in dramatic fashion as Dakota Egbert hit a walk-off home run in the second game to secure the 4-3 win.

Down three runs headed into the bottom of the 6th, the Vikings were able to tie the game up going into the last inning. The homer was Egbert’s first of the season.

The first game of the day found Big Bend in front early. Up 4-1 headed into the 6th, the Hawks were able to cut the deficit to two before the Vikings added three runs in the bottom of the inning. Big Bend closed out the victory in the top of the 7th for the 7-2 win.

Bailey Christensen pitched the first game of the day for the Vikings, surrendering two runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Hanna Reid and Taryn Matthews each finished with a pair of RBIs in the opener, with Reid securing a homer as well. Maya Saneishi finished 3-4 at the plate.

Alyssa Ray had three strikeouts on the mound in game two, giving up four runs on seven hits. Riley Newbold and Aubree Barney each went 2-3 from the plate, combining for three RBIs.

Big Bend swept Yakima Valley on Saturday, May 4, to move to 32-10 (24-6) on the season.
