RENTON — Two student-athletes in the Columbia Basin Herald/Sun Tribune coverage area were named Week 5 winners in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association/Wendy's Athlete of the Week winners for Week 5 (Sept. 23-29).

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes varsity athletes who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week (based off of nominations).

All varsity level students in good academic standing at their schools are eligible to receive the WIAA/Wendy's Athlete of the Week Award. Students may win the award once during any given academic year.

Nominations are open to athletic administrators, coaches, fans and members of the media, with a weekly deadline of Tuesday at noon.

To view archives of previous winners, visit the WIAA website.

Oscar Rodriguez, Wahluke, Football (Jr.)

Rodriguez returned to action as the quarterback last week against Kiona-Benton, where he registered five touchdown passes in the 50-13 win. He was 15-of-32 passing for 388 yards.

Tracie Delgado, Soap Lake, Volleyball (Sr.)

Delgado led her team to a straight-set win over Oroville and a hard-fought battle with Manson. She finished the week with 39 assists, 27 digs, eight aces, and five kills.
